Continuing the illy tradition of the annual artist cup collections, Francesco Clemente has become the latest esteemed artist to make his unique mark on the brand’s distinct cup. In the past, artists such as Jeff Koons and Anish Kapoor have taken the white porcelain illy cup and enhanced it with designs of their own, allowing illy to boast a comprehensive collection of contemporary art you can drink out of.
Clemente, who is well-versed in a range of artistic mediums, reflects his interest in nomadic art this ceramic collection. On each set, the artist used no more than three colors, mainly earth tones, which fuse together like watercolors or tie-dye. Clemente carefully printed a letter on the base of each saucer, incorporating a sense of personalization. The natural colors and forms juxtaposed with the sharp design of the refined cup affirms a well-conceived idea that will nicely compliment the illy cup collection.
