Marc Jacobs has recruited yet another iconic artist for his latest collaboration with Louis Vuitton. Yayoi Kusama will be the next artist to follow in the footsteps of Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami, and Richard Prince. The 82 year-old Japanese artist is best known for her use of polka-dots in her work, which she has been known to apply to everything from 33 foot canvases to human beings over the years. Her graphic spots and primary palette seem an obvious fit for the brand and its LV logo.
The collaboration will also coincide with a retrospective of Kusama's work at the Tate Modern in February , which will then move to the Whitney Museum in New York in July. It is reported that Kusama will be working on pieces in ready-to-wear, accessories, and leather goods, as well as executing the visuals and window installations at the Louis Vuitton boutiques. The collaboration is set to debut in July 2012; should be a spotty summer!
An exhibition of new paintings by Kusama will be on view at Victoria Miro Gallery in London next month, from February 10 – April 5, 2012.
