During Art Basel Miami Beach week Whitewall visited Don and Mera Rubell, the collecting duo behind the Rubell Family Collection in Miami’s Wynwood District. It was the afternoon before the evening opening of the collection’s latest exhibition, “American Exuberance” on view now through July 27, 2012. It includes 190 works by 64 artists including 40 works made this year, specifically for the show. Here, the Rubells describe how both American and international artists deal with this idea of “american exuberance” and what the phrase means for the two of them as collectors.
