Verne Dawson, Tallahassee
Galerie Eva Presenhuber in Zurich will be showing new works by American painter Verne Dawson November 17th through December 23rd. Dawson's work has been recognized since the 1980s for its faithful nod to the act of painting and its many layers of themes revolving around evolution, religion, and mythology. His work begins with seemingly normal landscapes and harmless observations of the world around us.
But underneath his telling titles, haunting strokes, and the stories told in his simplistic compositions is layer
upon layer of history and meaning. Galerie Eva Presenhuber will show new works of this proportion in the upcoming solo show. Among others will be the Old Mill Calendar, recently shown at the Yokohama Triennial, a four-part mural that will take over an entire room of the gallery. The large canvases meet to create a natural movement from day to night, light to darkness, even possibly birth to death within a series of landscapes.
