Following Rafael Nadal’s sixth French Open win, Richard Mille will be auctioning off the RM 027 watch worn by the top-ranked tennis player during that tournament. It is the second French Open that Nadal has won while wearing the RM 027 watch and he will continue to wear it until the end of the tennis season, when it will be auctioned at Only Watch this fall.
Presiding over the fourth Only Watch auction of exceptional watches on September 22, 2011 is HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, and all proceeds of the event, organized by Antiquorum Auctioneers, Geneva, will go to support research of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
For this year’s auction, Richard Mille wanted to donate a truly exceptional piece. Not only has it been worn by Rafael Nadal, but the watch itself is truly a technical marvel. It weighs less than 20 grams including the strap, and the mechanism has never failed during one of Nadal’s matches.
As Richard Mille brand ambassador, Nadal previously met Luc Pettavino, President of the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophies, and his son, Paul, who is struggling against Duchenne muscular dystrophy himself. The greatest tennis player in the world gave his watch to Paul, symbolically uniting himself and Richard Mille with the struggle against the disease.
