Swiss watchmaker Hublot opened its first flagship boutique in Japan on the prestigious Namiki street in Ginza, Tokyo. The June 2nd opening in Ginza marks the 35th Hublot boutique to open. New York architect Peter Marino designed the new boutique with the same concept as the Hublot boutique in Place Vendôme, Paris (which opened in December 2010) and Madison Avenue, New York (which opened in February 2011). Marino has introduced materials such as bronze, natural buckskin, and ebony to convey a warm yet tranquil atmosphere.
The wide varieties of watches at the Ginza boutique are displayed in innovative showcases with captivating displays, and the boutique also uses a high definition screen to display the latest Hublot events. It is also the only location to offer the “Vendome Collection” in Japan.
A gala dinner was held to celebrate the boutique opening and to support Kids Earth Fund. Established in 1988, the organization has been sponsored by corporate enterprises and individual donations. Selected children’s artworks are reproduced with the support of the sponsorships to create marketable products that are sold to benefit the charity. Kids Earth Fund has held a number of art exhibitions worldwide.
As a result of the gala, Hublot donated 10,000 sets of colored pencils to the Kids Earth Fund in Japan. The pencils were used in drawing workshops, allowing the children to express themselves artistically. Hublot’s CEO Jean-Claude Biver visited Japan just a week before the Tohoku Earthquake hit on March 11th 2011. Hublot was one of the first luxury brands to take action after the disaster. Hublot launched “Commitment for Japan, You and Hublot for Japan,” a campaign that raises funds through Red Cross Society for support.
Also at the opening of the event was the FIFA Winner’s Trophy for 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, thanks to a strong relationship between Hublot position as the “Official Watchmaker” and “Official Timekeeper” of the World Cup. It was the first public release of the trophy in Japan.
In attendance at the opening ceremony was Sho Hakuho, Seigo Narazaki, Harumi Torii, Jean-Claude Biver, Ricardo Guadalupe, and Emmanuel Prat.
