The Linda Pace Foundation announced on April 19 the acquisition of Sunset Song to its extensive collection of contemporary art. This sound sculpture is now on view at CHRISpark through June 26, during which time the park is maintaining extended hours on Tuesday to Thursday from noon to sundown.

Sunset Song was created by Scottish artist Susan Philipsz during her 2003 residency at Artpace in San Antonio. This particular installation features Philipsz singing both male and female parts of the folk song “Banks of Ohio”. The volume of this call-and-response arrangement alters in accordance with changing daylight.

Since her residency at Artpace, Philipsz has continued to experiment with sound and to develop sculptures with this unexpected medium. The artist and her work were honored in 2010 with the prestigious Turner Prize.

The installation of Sunset Song was inaugurated with a reception on May 6 that included Friends of the Foundation, artists, members of the local art community, and the general public.
