If you tired of the endless array of booths at the many fairs in Miami last week, you may have taken a trip out to Miami’s Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, where sculptures by Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne are now on view. It is the artists’ largest outdoor exhibition in the U.S. to date, and over 20 sculptures stand interspersed throughout the grounds. If you weren’t able to visit, you are in luck, as they at the Fairchild botanic garden through May 31, 2011. Said Carl Lewis, Director of Fairchild, “The artists’ exuberant sculptures set amongst Fairchild’s world-class, unusual, tropical plant collections are sure to enchant visitors of all ages, as well as support our commitment to culture in South Florida.” Many works on display are being shown for the first time publicly, including the dinosaur-shaped Dimetrodon II (1998), an owl entitled Canard sur L’Eau; Genie de Bellerive Grand Noir (2007), and a cow with a window in its center called Vache Paysage (2006).
