For those lucky enough to score a VIP pass to Art Basel Miami Beach, be sure to check out the Cartier section of the Collector’s lounge. Cartier and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain have created a space designed by Beat Takeshi Kitano, a Japanese artist and filmmaker. The lounge is an offshoot of his recent exhibition at the foundation, “Gosse de pientre.” Drawings from the artist modeled after his paintings line the walls, and one can even be colored-in by visitors. In the center of the lounge is a large, glass case showcasing a Gosse de peintre kit, a Cartier-made suitcase with the necessary accoutrement for a painter. “If you are, for example, Cezanne, and like to go paint in the country side, you can take this suitcase and everything you need is in it,” said the Director of Development at the Foundation, Sonia Perrin. “You have the beret, of course, the brushes, the paint, and you even have the model in the form of a plastic blow-up doll.” Kitano’s playful character and preoccupation with childhood is ever apparent and completely contagious.
