Jean “Johnny” Pigozzi celebrated the opening of his first LimoLand store last Friday in New York alongside André Balazs, Chris Blackwell, Ralph Gibson, Brett Ratner, Jeff & Gillian Sagansky. LimoLand, now on sale at 829 Washington Street, is Pigozzi’s bright menswear line for “men that live to create” or (a tagline more Johnny’s style) “street wear for rich old men.” Guests like Dasha Zhukova, Simon de Pury, Tony Hawk, Francesco Clemente, Anthony Haden-Guest, Jennifer Missoni, Andres Serrano, Rory Tahari, and Stefano Tonchi sifted through the racks while sipping Casa Dragones tequila and viewing Pigozzi’s collaboration with photographer Theo Wenner: portraits of Mario Batali, Clemente, Pascal Dangin, Christian Louboutin, de Pury, and Liv Tyler in LimoLand. As a special treat, everyone received a calendar of the collaboration to take home.
Though this is the first store, LimoLand was founded in 2007 by Pigozzi after he got fed up trying to find clothing that matched his vibrant style (and personality). Pigozzi is a collector of art (he has one of the largest collections of contemporary Africa art), spending his time between Panama, England, France, Switzerland, England, and the U.S. He is a venture capitalist, philanthropist, and photographer whose photos have been shown at the Gagosian Gallery in New York, the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, and the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin. (A profile of Pigozzi is in December's Vanity Fair.)
