Watchmaker Jaquet Droz opened its first Paris boutique earlier this month. As the city where Pierre Jaquet Droz set up a watch-making workshop in 1785, Paris holds a particular historical significance for this timepiece company. It seems appropriate that the new boutique is on the famous rue de la Paix in a building from the 1800s, but the neoclassical exterior contrasts with the contemporary interior of the 650-sq. foot boutique. Like the new Haute Horlogerie workshop in Le Crêt du Locle, Switzerland, the boutique uses a color scheme of black, enamel, and gray as well as glossy and matte surfaces. The sleek and curved lines of the interior also mirror the number 8, Jaquet Droz’s favorite number. This calls into question whether the boutique’s address was intentionally chosen as Number 8, rue de la Paix, or whether Jaquet Droz is just very lucky.
