Last Wednesday, September 15, Verlaine held a fashion show for their Spring/Summer 2011 Collection at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. Needless to say, it was a very well-attended event. Designers, reporters, and fashion enthusiasts came from all over the world to see what Verlaine has in store for next season and, of course, attend a trendy after-party at the nearby nightclub 10AK. Derek Warburton, David Bryan, Kim Ann Foxman, Joseph Miceli-Magnone, Thalia Patillo, Maria Helena Vianna, and Silvia Prada are just a few of the big names that made an appearance.

Verlaine incorporated netting and natural fabrics like silk crepe de chine and cotton poplin; for colors, the classic black as well as softly tie-dyed blues, greens, and reds; and for designs, beautifully draped gowns, sexy off-the-shoulder styles, flattering cinched waists, exposed zippers, and chic jackets with an art deco twist. Designer Todd DiCiurcio said that “juxtaposing tie dye with heavy woven nets [creates an] allure that makes you feel that for every fish in the sea, this is the most attractive tackle.” The maritime theme seems perfectly fitting. Verlaine apparently took the concept of the poolside shift to create the fluid evening gowns, which truly looked like waves as the extra fabric trailed behind the models.
