Rufus Wainwright THE WATERMILL CONCERT 2010 "Last Song of Summer" August 28, 2010.
The Third Annual Watermill Benefit Concert The Last Song of Summer, featuring musicians Rufus Wainwright and Kylie Minogue, was held this past Saturday at the Byrd Hoffman Watermill Foundation in New York. The sold-out event was indeed successful, raising about $200,000 for the Watermill Center Artist in Residence Program. The concert was attended by over 600 guests, including Anjelica Huston, Mark Ronson, Klaus Biesenbach, Stephen and Christine Schwarzman, Andrey Bartenev, Ron & Amy Guttman, Roger Ferris, and Jackie Rogers. Supported in part by Sotheby’s, the event provided guests with refreshments, drinks, and gift bags from Chanel.
The concert opened with two songs by Krystle Warren, and then continued with Wainwright, who sung a few of his classics solo before bringing pop star Minogue on stage to sing a few duets. Together, they sang from “Hallelujah” to Minogue’s own “Love At First Sight” to Elton John’s “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” Toward the end of the show, a “Can’t Get You out of My Head” encore brought the audience to their feet before an (more subdued) ending of “Somewhere over the Rainbow,” which Wainwright dedicated to his mother and folk legend, Kate McGarrigle. Concluding the final Saturday night in August was a backstage champagne soiree, a perfect way to celebrate the last songs of summer.
