The Opposite House, an award-winning luxury hotel located in Beijing, in partnership with the F2 gallery, is presenting the works of artist Feng Shu in its first-floor atrium until September 30, 2010.
Feng Shu is known for his large insect sculptures made of materials like steel and ceramics, decorated with paint and crystals, that emanate an overall sense of science fiction and fairy tale. Feng Shu’s creations were first commissioned for an installation at MTR Tai Wai Station in Hong Kong as part of the “Art in Station Architecture” (AiSA) program. The insects are created with a combination of traditional Chinese art medium of ceramics with more modern construction techniques, a method that unites past and present.
This is the second time Feng Shu’s works have been displayed at The Opposite House, though the artist has added some new works this time, including recently created dragonflies, butterflies, and a Swarovski-encrusted scorpion.
The Opposite House was reviewed by Whitewall in the summer 2010 issue out now.
