Art Basel opens today, and organizers have ensured that artists, gallerists, dealers, collectors, and visitors are prepared for it even on the technological front: an Art Basel phone application, The Art 41 Basel Show Guide, was released June 12th.
iPhones, Blackberries, and smartphones can download the app that contains information on all things Art Basel. The fair’s galleries, artists, exhibitions, and events are all in there, searchable by name and even by location. An extensive 3D-map allows users to experience and navigate the event through zoom- and orbit-transitions, transparency, and rotation. Even galleries’ contact details are included to either be recorded or, because it is a phone after all, accessed then and there. Users can also bookmark their favorite artists and galleries, and even research ongoing events outside the art fair.
If you don’t find yourself in Switzerland this year, no worries, a similar app is in the works for Art Basel Miami Beach 2010.
