Last night MoMA hosted the closing celebration of Marina Abramovic’s retrospective, “The Artist Is Present.” From March 14th through May 31st Abramovic invited museum-goers to sit with her, for any amount of time, in the atrium of the museum. The artist sat still and silent for over three-months, the longest performance of her career.
For the event held at Sant Amboeus, the restaurant and KREEMART worked to create a dessert called the Gold Ball, the centerpiece of the evening’s performance. The ball is traditionally consumed after long fasts or periods of seclusion by Tibetan monks – so that’s what Abramovic did along with her guests. Everyone placed 24K golden leaf to their lips before tasting the gold ball. Also for dessert (and also by KREEMART) – a chocolate mold of the artist’s lips.
