The Swatch Group opened four boutiques at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai last week - Breguet, Blancpain, Omega, and (of course) Swatch. The hotel, formerly the historic South Building of the Peace Hotel, is being restored by Jin Jiang International and is slated to open this August.
Swatch envisions a unique space that merges retail, art, culture, and hospitality. Jouin Manku (the parisian agency of Patrick Joun and Sanjit Manku) designed the interiors of the building, including seven guest suites. There will be 18 workshop apartments available for artists to live, work, and later exhibit their art. At the moment, the artist selection committee includes Nicolas G. Hayek and Georges N. Hayek, Chairman and CEO of the Swatch Group; Esther Grether, Board Member of the Swatch Group; George Clooney, actor; François-Henri Pinault, CEO of PPR; Mikhail Kusnirovich, Chairman of the Strategic Development Committee of GUM; and Sir Francis Yeoh, Chairman, YTL Group.
