Last night AOL launched its collaboration with Partners & Spade and Chuck Close, Project on Creativity, at the New Museum in New York. The evening also celebrated AOL’s 25th anniversary, with hundreds of guests like Andy Spade, Kate Spade, Lisa Anastos, Jennifer Missoni, Jean-Philippe Delhomme, Will Cotton, Glenn O’Brien, Bill Powers, Christine Teigen, and AOL CEO Tim Armstrong. Later in the evening, guests were graced by John Legend performing at the Bowery Hotel.
At the New Museum were portraits of the Dalai Lama, Gus Van Sant, Kara Walker, and the like done by Close, shown to give a taste of what’s to come for Project on Creativity. The initiative will produce exclusive online content, 25 $25,000 scholarships for creative folk, a conference in New York about creativity and technology, and a campaign featuring Close’s portraits. Said Close of the collaboration, “I believe this kind of thinking will help [AOL] reemerge as the pioneering American brand known throughout the world.”
AOL also announced the 41 original works created by hand-selected artists to be featured on the brand’s homepage and AOLArtists.com. Four of the pieces were present last night from artists Phillip Low, Rachael Thomas, David White, and James Taylor.
