Five international designers reinterpreted the beauty of Swarovski Crystals with the “Swarovski Crystal Palace” Salone del Mobile 2010 edition. Each designer had their own single installation room where imagination flew high and proved that the crystals can be used in more ways than you could image.
Stellar by Tokujin Yoshioka
Upon entering the display, the public was immediately impressed by the Japanese artists creation of this. Yoshioka created a globe on meter in diameter encrusted with 10 thousand crystals and lit by 600 LED’s. A second piece consisted of another orb suspended in a tank of water where crystals grew naturally also captivated viewers.
Sparks by Gwenael Nicholas
To give the impression of a space with no gravity was the ultimate goal of this French designer. Two separate designs were displayed in his installation. The first consisted of transparent balloons filled with helium and a small crystal sculpture lit by a battery LED light, creating the look of stars across the night sky. The second piece was a 10m long set of crystal strings lit also by LED.
Frost by Vincent van Duysen
As part of the architect’s second collaboration with Swarovski, van Duysen created a glowing beam encrusted with crystals. Each bar featured different sized crystals enclosed in a thin glass panel lit by an LED lighting system.
Dream Cloud by Rogier van der Heide
Being an architectural lighting designer and the Chief Design Officer of Phillips Lighting, van der Heide’s installation relied on the beauty of the crystals in their natural stage. Thousands of crystals floated in the air, letting the spaced be transformed by their natural light against and an external lighting system of different colors illuminate the precious stones.
Amplify by Yves Béhar
A lighting arrangement was the fourth collaboration between this San Francisco based artist and Swarovski. Paper lanterns in the form of crystals hung from the roof while being lit by a low consuming energy LED light. The installation featured 6 different crystal shapes in varied sizes.
