Jesse Amado's "Days," commissioned by the Linda Pace Foundation in honor of the late Linda Pace.
If you find yourself in San Antonio this weekend, be sure to check out Days, a work by artist Jesse Amado incorporating over 22,000 crystals, that will be dedicated to the San Antonio Public Library Foundation tomorrow. The public work was commissioned by the Linda Pace Foundation and commemorates the late Linda Pace in celebration of what would be her65th birthday. The timing of the dedication also falls on the 15th anniversary of Artpace in San Antonio, the celebrated Texas institution founded by Pace in one of her many efforts as an art collector, artist, and philanthropist.
All 22,772 tear-drop crystals will be on view in the window of the Central Library’s lobby. Why so many crystals? Each represents a day in the life of Pace, brought together in a brilliant sculptural cluster exemplifying the vibrant life she lead and the lasting impact and legacy she left behind. “This placement within the window will allow an exterior view of the work as well as an interior one and will serve as a metaphor for the outer and inner being of sources – the internal and external, the physical and metaphysical, the body and the spirit,” said Amado. The artist was one of the first group of artists to participate in Artpace’s residency program making her participation in the project all the more meaningful.
