Design Miami/ held its press preview and vernissage today in Miami's Design District. The fair's impermanent structure, designed by Aranda/Lasch is striking - especially in the early evening light. It's a bold departure from the white tents of most other fairs in the neighborhood. Once inside, Greg Lynn's soaring design (it's literally made from sailing and nautical techniques) for the Swarovski Crystal Palace is immediately to your right and sets the tone for the rest of the fair: this year booths present a selection of works much more luxe in material and  design than last year's organic and earthy tones. The HSBC lounge is a stark, white, geometric construction designed by Arik Levy (featured in Whitewall's Fall 2009 Issue) - a far cry form the Campana Brother's grass covered lounge. It's an overall mood that Audi and Veuve Clicquot, which have a fairly large presence at the fair, feel right at home with.
