1. Three Banksy impersonators, who are charged with selling Bansky frauds as limited editions, were arrested in England and face charges of fraud and money laundering. In other news, demand for paintings by Banksy have drastically dropped at U.K. auctions.
2. Rental, a downscale Lower East Side gallery, has installed 20 upscale works by artists such as Warhol and Murakami in their summer group exhibition entitled “Don’t Panic! I’m Selling My Collection” in order to attract new clients in the new economy.
3. Contemporary artist Patrick Brill (better known by his pseudonym Bob and Roberta Smith) and photographer Wolfgang Tillmans have been appointed trustees of the Tate by the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
4. After leaving his gallery and being left by his girlfriend, artist Jasper Joffe is selling everything he owns (except for the clothes that he is wearing) at London’s Idea Generation Gallery at a part sale, part performance art and part exhibition entitled “The Sale of A Lifetime.”
5. Plans for the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, designed by Frank Gehry, include a rotating art exhibition featuring top contemporary artists. Proceeds from admissions and sales of the exhibition will be used towards the institution’s clinical care and medical research.
